Born in a middle class agrarian family at Sivajipuram, Thuravoor near Kalady of Aluva Taluk, he had his schooling at St.Mary’s L.P.School, Thuravoor. Later joined Brahmanandodayam U.P.School (BSUPS) and Brahmanandodayam High School (BHS), Kalady, founded by the great social reformer Agamananda Swamigal (Founder President of Sree Rama Krishna Advaita Ashramam, Kalady). Did his Pre-Degree course, B.Com and M.Com courses in Sree Sankara College, affiliated to the University of Kerala (now affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam).
His family consists of five brothers and a sister. Father late K.Velayudhan of Pallipattu family and mother late Kotha Velayudhan. Parents were farmers and the eldest brother late P.V Kumaran was also a farmer by profession. Lakshmi, the only sister is housewife. P.V Balakrishnan, B.com graduate, was in Govt. service and retired as Deputy Director of the Dept. of Industries. P.V Narayanan is a retired school teacher. Narayanan Master motivated him in joining BSUPS Kalady, which was a turning point in his career.His brother, Late P.V.Damodaran, was also a farmer by profession. Gopalan, elder brother was in Govt. service. Though he struggled hard to learn English medium course at UP and HS level, it gave a great impetus to his College study.
He had 47.5% marks in SSLC Exams. But struggled hard to reach higher heights in higher education. Secured high second class in Pre degree course and first class in B.com Degree Examination.
He came out with flying colours in M.com Degree Examination by securing first class and first rank from the University of Kerala. The marks secured by him in 1980 was a record. He is the first student from the college to secure first rank in M.com Degree from the University. His record in the college is unbroken even after Forty one years.
Considering the rural and social background which he belongs to in 80’s, his success story was unique in nature. In 1980 itself, he joined Mar Athanasius College, Kothamangalam (MA College) as Junior Lecturer. In the same year, he joined Sree Kerala Varma College, Thrissur, managed by the Cochin Devaswom Board. Later in 1982, he joined as lecturer in his alma mater and served the college for thirty two years and retired as Associate Professor in 2014.
Prof.Peethambaran's wife Sudha Peethambaran is a well known Mohiniyattam Dancer. They promote classical dance and music in a befitting manner. Sudha Peethambaran is an ICCR & Dooradarshan A Grade Artiste
