Secretary, Agamananda Samithi

He was secretary of the Agamananda Swami Smaraka Samithi, an N.G.O formed to perpetuate the name of Agamananda Swamiji, the great social reformer and Founder President of Sree Sankara College, Kalady. During his tenure, as Secretary for twenty years, he was instrumental in organising Agamananda Jayanthi as a popular cultural event at Kalady.

He organised seminars and workshops to highlight the contribution of Agamananda Swamiji to the spiritual and cultural awakening of Kerala. During his tenure two important State level awards were instituted, one to a prominent personality who promote Sanskrit Literature and the other to a person who make significant contribution to the promotion of welfare of scheduled castes and schedule tribes.

He initiated the institution of many educational endowments to brilliant and marginalised students as part of the activities of the Samithi. Incidentally, promotion of educational activities, propagation of Sanskrit literature, encouragement of the progress and prosperity of the marginalised people, were inter alia, some of the important thrust areas of Agamananda Swamiji.

Secretary of College Teachers' Association

He was not confined to the four walls of the educational institution. Along with teaching, social and cultural activities attracted him a lot. He was unit Secretary of the College Teachers Association. Later became unit President, District President, and State Secretary of the Association. He was the state Media convenor of the association and Chief Editor of Teachers' Voice, the mouth piece of the Association.

State President, SRVCS

Prof P.V. Peethambaran, became the State General Secretary of Sree Rama Vilasam Chavalar Society, an NGO and an organisation synonymous with social equality, in 1988. He worked as the office bearer of the society for more than thirty years.

Nellikuzhi Pilgrimage

As the mooter of Nellikuzhi Pilgrimage, he suggested Pilgrimage yatra from Palani to Nellikuzhi. Pilgrimage Mega Meeting, Secular Congregation of Religions (Sarvamatha Sammelanam), Objective Based Seminars, Secular Lighting of Lamps, Objective Based Awards like award to those who fight against corruption (K.M Kuttan Award), awards to individuals and institutions who make significant contributions to create an awareness against addiction to drugs and alcohol (Prof. M.P Manmadhan Award), dissemination of the great messages of reformist, spiritual and national leaders etc. are some of the important components of the Pilgrimage. He is working as the Chairman of the Pilgrimage right from the inception in 2015. Under his chairmanship five pilgrimages were conducted with great success. Many social, spiritual, cultural, ministerial and well known publicmen took part in the deliberations of the Pilgrimage and he took a key role in inviting these personalities to the Sanctum Sanctorum of the Pilgrimage site. During his tenure as Secretary, he did a yeoman’s service in promoting the interest of the marginalised and the downtrodden pople. He introduced Family units to educate and promote better family relations among the members. He introduced and imparted free training programmes to the unemployed youth, career counselling and pre-marriage counselling courses, media training, training in compering, etc. He promoted micro finance concept as part of women empowerment. He took several steps to organise arts festivals to promote the hidden talents of the youngsters.

Later, he became the State President of S.R.V.C.S and did a lot to develop the society as a secular body. He mooted the idea of Nellikuzhi Pilgrimage, perhaps the first of its kind in the world, a pilgrimage from Palani to the Sanctum Sanctorum of Nellikuzhi Bhagavathy Temple, near Kothamangalam in Ernakulam District. The Pilgrimage aims at creating an awareness among the people about the global issues like corruption, communalism, atrocity, terrorism and addiction to drugs and alcohol. The Pilgrimage propagates the great messages of reformist, spiritual and national leaders like Adi Sankaracharya, SreeNarayana Gurudev, Mahatma Gandhi, Chattambi Swamigal, Swami Vivekananda, Ayyankali and Agamananda Swamigal.
